QE /IPCE Measurement Systems

Quantum Efficiency Measurement System also is known as Incident Photon to Converted Electron (IPCE) Measurement System.

The Quantum Efficiency Measurement System allows an overall “external” quantum value measurement, which is considered the most important factor in cell testing. Measurement capabilities also include the Spectral Response, and IV Testing. The Quantum Efficiency Measurement System can be upgraded to include Internal Quantum Efficiency measurements, Constant Photocurrent Method Measurements, Photo-thermal Deflection Spectroscopy Measurements, or Dual Beam Photocurrent Measurements.

This system includes either a 150W Xenon or 250W QTH lamp, and a monochromator to tune the light source. A source meter (Keithley 2400) used as an active load permits operating the test cell at various load conditions, including short-circuit, compensating for a series resistor required to sense the current produced by the modulated monochromatic light. This sensed current plus a reference signal at the frequency of the light modulation are both fed into the precision lock-in amplifier (Stanford SR-810) to allow measurement of the photocurrent generated by the modulated monochromatic light.

The Quantum Efficiency Measurement System features all the software required for I-V Curves and Spectral Response measurements. Main parameters of these measurements are displayed by the software, including the most important graphs typically required by researchers and the industry. For the industry, our software development group offers to develop whatever is required to meet demand.

The geometry of the light from the Monochromator is controlled to illuminate only a small section of the solar cell (typically 3mm diameter), ensuring that 100% of the monochromatic irradiance contributes to the output signal.
NOTE: Spot size must be smaller than the 5mm diameter reference detector.
The Quantum Efficiency Measurement System system includes a I-V-Test measurement system, precision lock-in amplifier and system software. The software controls the Monochromator, source meter and lock-in amplifier to automatically measure the I-V characteristics and SR versus wavelength, plotting the result(s) on screen and outputting calculated results, including Voc, Isc, Pmax, Fill Factor, plus the raw measurements to a standard file format.

Additionally, the Quantum Efficiency Measurement System can be upgraded with optional light tight sample chamber, vertical adjustment components, sliding sample holder, and thermal control (either cooling or heating) for the sample holder. While these additions are not required for operation of the system, including them will ease your operation of the system.

(PTS-3-CPM) Constant Photocurrent Method System

The PTS-3-CPM allows users the same ability to measure IV, Spectral Response, and Quantum Efficiency as the PTS-1 and PTS-2, but adds the powerful Constant Photocurrent Method (CPM). The CPM system illuminates the sample solar sell with a bias solar light source while a separate light source is modulated to cover a specified spectrum. The bias source ensures that the signal is not dominated by the non-linear response at low-level illumination, but rather gives a baseline response dependent on the wavelength of the modulated source. (PTS-3-DBM) Dual Beam Photocurrent Method

The PTS-3-DBPM has the same ability to measure IV, Spectral Response, and Quantum Efficiency as the PTS-1 and PTS-2 systems, but adds the powerful technique of the Dual Beam Photoconductivity Method. The DBPM system is based on maintaining constant photocurrent over the range of photon energy to get constant quasi-Fermi levels. Furthermore, the DBPM system has the additional capability to vary the bias light source intensity. (EQE-BASIC) Basic Quantum Efficiency System

QE /IPCE Measurement Systems

The major difference between a standard EQE-measurement using monochromators and the EQE-Basic method is the simplicity of the system.
There are no additional mechanical parts in this setup such as choppers, filter wheels, or rotating gratings which would increase the measurement time.
The solar cell is not illuminated with a monochromatic light beam from a monochromator but with the spectral output of individual LEDs, one at a time.
Eliminating the broadband illumination source and its power supply, its coupling optics, the chopper, the monochromator, the filter wheel, the bias light and its power supply, the lock-in amplifier, and all associated setup and alignment time greatly improves the cost effectiveness of the EQE system while providing sufficient data for production analysis of solar cells.
The measurement time of our EQE-Basic approach is reduced to seconds rather than minutes.
An LED solar simulator can provide a full area illumination of cells making a scanning of samples obsolete. In particular, an EQE measurement on entire modules is possible as an LED light source can be scaled up to module size with an appropriate current sink.
Power and spectral response measurements can be combined in a single tool saving valuable processing time and investment cost.
The EQE-Basic method is implemented with a Sciencetech LED solar simulator featuring 16 different LED wavelengths plus a Sciencetech Digital Sourcemeter.
The EQE-Basic method is a simpler alternative to traditional EQE measurements. It offers four major advantages:
• It is implemented with a measurement time of seconds.
• It can examine the entire cell or module area making spatial scanning unnecessary.
• The measurement can be done directly using an LED solar simulator making the use of a separate and additional EQE measurement device unnecessary.
• Less expensive compared to a standard Laboratory EQE measurement system.

QE /IPCE Measurement Systems

For Internal Quantum Efficiency, instead of attempting to measure reflectance losses directly using an integrating sphere method, Sciencetech determines total QE losses by making two QE measurements under different conditions which emphasize external surface effects, allowing losses due to reflection and scattering to be inferred more accurately than would normally be possible to measure. This allows a wider range of sample sizes, and provides accurate, precise information on IQE.
